What better time to consistently provide your immune system with some TLC than a global pandemic?! Listen, people have always made questionable choices regarding basic hygiene in public places. From the kids that touch everything – with their mouths, – to the people who only wash their hands if the pee touches them after using the bathroom and THEN have the nerve to touch your food…girl, the germs have no end. They work harder than the devil’s army. Naturally, you’re going to have to work harder with some preventive care.
What Is Your Immune System?
In short, your immune system is your body’s military. Your proteins, organs, and white blood cells need sufficient funding for tanks, bombs, and five-star physical training to stay fit and face their enemies, fight, and WIN! As aforementioned, your body is battling malicious viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites, and more everywhere you go. Your immune system is thousands of wars at once 24/7 and all you might experience is some congestion or a headache. Whatever pain or convenience you feel is not even a tenth of your body’s actual turmoil.
When your offenders shoot your immune system in a weak spot and begin to infiltrate, this is where you will experience more severe symptoms like a common cold, the flu, or worse – the ‘RONA. With a quick boost, you should be back on the up and up, and your immune system can go back to fighting with full force. However, if you only boost your immune system until you feel better, and continue handing it dollar store weapons thereafter, the bacterial enemies will win more and more battles with their discount rifles from Walmart. How are you going to let Walmart beat you?! This is when you start developing more permanent issues that can’t be shaken off with a quick immune support shot. We’re talking allergies, leaky gut – a hole in the lining of your gut – asthma, etc. Although some of those things are reversible, they require a LOT more work, pain, and inconvenience to fix.
How Can You Boost Your Immune System?
The fact that you’ve made it this far proves you’re my kinda woman! We are winners here! Let’s talk game plans. There are 3 crucial steps to have the most elite immune system even money can’t buy.
1. Food and Vitamins
What you eat matters. Your body IS food, so the quality of the food you eat determines the quality of fighting materials your immune system is working with. Eating more whole foods, taking quality supplements your body is deficient in, and maintaining proper water intake equip your immune system with military-grade weapons to show the Walmart Wonders it means business!
Supplements you want to be sure you’ve got enough of include:
- B Vitamins
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin D
You can remedy most of these deficiencies with foods:
- Sweet Potatoes
- Bell Peppers
- Citrus Fruit
- Bone Broth
- Green Tea
On a side note, you will want to get tested for these deficiencies and not just go pill-popping all willie nillie.
2. Drink More Water
All the nutrients in the world won’t do you justice if they’re not being carried throughout your body properly.
Water is excellent for:
- Electrolyte Balance
- System Cleansing
- Oxygen Circulation
- Transporting Nutrients
All of these things directly impact the amount of high-impact work your immune system can accomplish, especially oxygen circulation and cleansing.
3. Get Sufficient Sleep
Your body misses your bed even more than you do!
If you hear nothing else I tell you, please hear this. Sleeplessness is not a badge of honor. It deteriorates you from the inside out.
Your body runs a tight ship – or a train if you will. Its Reset team works the 3rd shift. If you are not in the proper state of sleep on time, your organs miss their opportunity to reset, renew, and restore. Of course, each organ has its own set of responsibilities that affect emotions and various aspects of your physical wellness. When one organ doesn’t get to reset, renew, and restore itself, it begins feeling under the weather and underperforms at work – just like you. The team’s goal is to assist each organ by cleaning it out and giving it some time to rest before the next round of germed varmints show up in the morning and throughout the day. However, your reset team loves automation, so they wait for no one. Patience and double-duty are not in their job description. You can’t even pay them for more time.
For example, your liver – your body’s filter – affects your ability to manage anger and depression. The liver’s ability to do its job helps the rest of your immune system shake off the battles they lose with the bacteria that get past their barriers. Your liver is among your body’s last resort, so its alertness and thoroughness are extremely important.
The reset team is scheduled to reset your liver during your R.E.M. sleep around 1am. If you aren’t getting to sleep until 1am, you are not in a deep enough sleep for your liver to experience the sweet peace and rest the reset team is trying to offer. There is no second chance, or circling back around. Your liver just suffers and does its best to show up to work the next day, hanging on by a thread.
This is the case for all of your organs. When you deprive yourself of sleep, your body’s systems are in worse shape than how you feel; they are struggling to continue showing up, and working diligently.
Lucky for you, your body is incredibly resilient and forgiving. As the world continues to drudge through the pandemic of 2021, you need to keep your immune systems equipped with the best resources possible.
Prioritizing a wholesome diet, supplements, water, and sleep will keep you ahead of the game and grants you a slight edge most others’ immune systems wish they had.
